the HOW TO of Brindabella Rhododendrons
Our Brindabella selected rhododendrons
are tough - really tough
and can be grown like this:
In pots: rhododendrons
are probably the world's best flowering
pot plants. Why? Because where they come
from in the
mountains, they thrive in pockets of soil
in the rock which is
exactly like a pot. We have some of our
selected rhododendrons
that have lived in the same pot for 16
years, receiving only water
year round and a dessert spoon of slow
release azalea/camellia
fertiliser once a year - and they flowers
spectacularly. Never
repotted. IMPORTANT pots must be small
keeping the roots
tight. So choose pots that are only 30cm
x 30cm x 30cm - no
bigger - ever. Use only potting mix marked
azalea/camellia and
ensure drainage holes remain open at all
times - put the pot up
20mm off the ground. Water with a dripper
placed right next to
the trunk. Perfect for shady verandahs
on south or east side of
your house, greenhouses and under shady
trees. Easy.

In Ground: our selected
rhododendrons may be grown in all
locations where soil will allow azaleas
or camellias to thrive.
Always place them facing to the south,
east or north. Our
rhododendrons can tolerate full sun in
the morning but are really
happy under dappled light from overhanging
trees or where they
are shaded all afternoon
by a fence or building. Apply bark chip
15cm thick in a 1m diameter circle around
each rhodendron
right up to their trunk and replensih
annually. Nothing else
required except weekly deep watering with
a dripper placed
right next to the trunk. Easy.
